Entrepreneurship

Through experiential marketing we create environments for our clients to touch and feel their consumers and in parallel let their consumers touch and feel them in their environments.

Our featured guest today is Marcus Damas.

Marcus Damas is an Entrepreneur, retired professional basketball player, and devoted husband and father based in New York City. Before playing in Sweden’s professional basketball league for the Solna Vikings, Marcus played Small Forward for the Towson Tigers, Towson University’s NCAA Division 1 team in the state of Maryland, where he is on the top 20 all-time scoring list.

Following his basketball career, Marcus returned to New York City to pursue a career in creative leadership as the Founder and CEO of Fueled by Culture. Fueled by Culture is a burgeoning creative marketing agency that specializes in connecting and empowering brands with influencers through innovative content and experiential event programming. KEY POINTS FROM MARCUS:

  • I’m grateful for every moment.  Every morning I get to wake up and kiss my wife and kids, I’m grateful for it.
  • Through experiential marketing we create environments for our clients to touch and feel their consumers and in parallel let their consumers touch and feel them in their environments.
  • I’m African-American and the CEO of my company, so we had to be way more prepared than everyone else, way more sophisticated than everyone else, and we had to communicate sharper than everyone else.
  • Faced with the day-to-day challenges of running a business, willpower, persistence and work ethic kept the lights on and gave us runway.
  • Overcompensation and militancy gave us runway to get to the next step.
  • When you have a good “why?” — a wonderful wife and two kids, that’s enough to help you succeed.
  • To create a franchise with a reputable brand like Forbes Magazine moves mountains for our company.  It gives us the opportunity to not rely on personalities but more so rely on the brand.
  • This partnership entails events and content, leveraging the reach of influencers.
  • After only two years, we are the most reputable hip-hop culture-facing brand. We’re the go-to when it comes to positioning already existing brands within culture.
  • The days are long but the years are short.
  • If you’re thinking about entrepreneurship, do it.  Despite the grind there are more rewards on this side.
  • As entrepreneurs, when things are square on your shoulders, there is some fear attached to it, but there is success and great rewards tied to the effort.
  • When you think there’s nothing left in the tank, there’s more.
  • Don’t let comfort sabotage your mission.
  • If you’re too comfortable then you’re losing.  There is some reward attached to making yourself uncomfortable — moving out of your comfort zone.
