As I stood in my daughter’s room this morning getting her a new diaper, I found myself questioning who should really be the one fussing and crying about what I had to do. I had just woken up, my eyes barely open, with a sinus headache and having to change a poopy diaper.
I was simply helping her get her bum cleaned up, but yet she was the one who was mad and cussing at me! But I did what I did, because I loved her and because it was the right thing to do, because I was her dad and I knew best. I knew that she needed that diaper changed right then and that leaving her in a stinky diaper was not an option.
1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us
For the first time this morning, I saw God in a light I had never seen before. You see, God is our father and sometimes he puts us on a changing table against our will. It is His will and intent to change us out of our filthy diapers and get us a new diaper when He sees fit. But often times, we are fussing and cussing. We are arguing because we enjoy sitting in our dirty filthy diaper. We don’t want to have the feeling of a wet cold wipey on our bums. We want to play with our toys and enjoy life!
Nevertheless, it’s not about our timing on when we want to do ‘stuff’. All things happen in God’s time.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is a time for everything
You see, He’s the parent. As our dad, He knows best. He knows when we need to stop playing and come inside. He knows when we need to eat the food of His word. He knows when to discipline us.
But you say, Stephen, why does God do all this? Because He Loves You!!
Pastor Justin reminded me a couple weeks ago, that:
John 3:16 God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
It doesn’t say, God likes us, or even that he loved us. The scripture says, God ‘so’ loved… Isn’t that the love of a parent. That you soooo love your kid, you’d do anything for them. You’d get up in the middle of the night, with a headache, an eye barely open and change a poopie diaper, despite your child cussing and fussing.
Know that God so loves you today! He wants to raise you up to make Him proud. Be obedient to His word today. Seek Him today. Love Him today. Isn’t it time that you became a great kid to your Awesome and Amazing Daddy in heaven? Isn’t it time you grew up and out of the milk bottle and stinky diapers? Isn’t it time you started to make your Father proud of His child?
