Happy New Year.  Did you commit to any new year’s resolutions? Did you write them down?  How many would agree that one or more of your goals were based on your own needs and ambitions.

I can humbly share that there are newly written goals in my resolution list for 2011, that for the first time will benefit others, including my goal to give away 10,000 shirts to impoverished kids in D. C., Maryland and Virginia through GodsFullArmor.com.  Nevertheless, there are also self centered goals that focus on my own self interests.  Goals around buying this or earning that.  They have to do with my own ambition and where I want to get to in 2011.  Anything wrong with that, you might ask?

Well, one of my goals for 2011 was to read my bible daily and commit to studying the New Testament.  Tonight, I’m reading Philippians 2: 1-11 from my Youversion.com reading plan.  Oh boy, wasn’t God re-prioritizing my list when He had me read verses 3 and 4:

3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

I encourage each of you to re-analyze your goals, your objectives and your priorities for 2011.  I would ask that you question your plans to see how you can imitate the humility of Jesus even more, by putting the interests of others before your own interests, ambition and desires.

I hope each of you reading this will definitely take the time to write out your goals for 2011, it’s a very important step to take at this time of the year and helps you keep yourself accountable to your years goals and objectives.  How else will you know whether you were successful or not come December.  Can’t know where you got, if you don’t know where you’re coming from!

I pray that each of you will bring favor, joy and peace to someone you know needs it in 2011.  Make your world a better place today than it was yesterday.
