Isn’t it funny how tomorrow seems so overwhelming, when you think of the bills that are due, keeping food on the table and shelter over you and your family. You think of that job you just got laid off from or your failing relationships/ marriage that have no hope.
It often seems bigger than it really is when you’ve actually gotten through it. Kind of like childhood memories growing up in Jamaica, I can think back to how big a fence I’d climb over playing as a young boy with my childhood friends. Today, I’d stand on the ground looking over the same fence that seemed to once tower over me. The fence didn't change, only my angle has changed.
I’ve learned that life is the exact same: a recurring cycle of these overwhelming emotions and events from day to day. We tend to focus so much on the next event, thinking the world is likely to end if we can’t get this situation resolved our way, right away! Then somehow God steps in and it just seems like things don’t necessarily get solved when you’d planned it or how you’d planned it, but it all seems to happen the way it does for a reason and according to His plan… and then you can’t picture it having happened any other way.
I know not all circumstances end the way we really want, but the fact is, we move on and we continue to progress past the next great task standing in our way. We somehow live to see the next step, the next dramatic event of our lives, barely remembering yesterday, the day it was almost over! It's so amazing to look back and see how circumstances you once thought dire, now are a lost thought.
Next time life stares at you with this overwhelming series of emotions, stare right back and motivate yourself to believe. Believe in God’s promise. Trust Him to get you through that tough day, that lost job, that missing mortgage payment you don’t know how to find, or the challenging relationship you think might end. It won’t always mean that you’ll have an end in clear sight, because sometimes we have to deal with the tough blows of each day, week and month and we just can’t seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes you might get the feeling like you’re on the moon all by yourself and no one can hear or see you. But through it all, He hears you, so never stop trusting Him and he will always provide what you need. That overwhelming day or event will come and go, and somehow, ‘it' will all work out and you'll be just fine when it's all over.
Hang in there and focus your energies wisely, knowing that your tomorrows will one day be your yesterdays, so build on each today with a smile. Believe! Good things do happen to great people like you. Don’t feed into what simply becomes just another overwhelming yesterday!
Remember: You can chase a butterfly all over the field and never catch it. But if you sit quietly in the grass it will come and sit on your shoulder.
Have a great day!
Cheers
Stephen
