It’s 12:25am and I’m up! I spent over 2 hours in the book of Mark, reading and reading. Jesus is so amazing. Scripture taught me so much tonight. One of the amazing things I’m seeing is that Jesus never gave up even when His disciples or followers lacked understanding, He just kept teaching. He performed so many miracles, he healed so many, he taught so many, he loved so many! It’s just amazing to me.
Where would we be if Jesus didn’t save us from our sins?
Part of my reading found me in Mark 7: 14-23, where Jesus said:
14…“Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. Nothing outside of a man can make him ‘unclean’ by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him ‘unclean’….
18… Don’t you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him ‘unclean’? For it doesn’t go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods ‘clean’).
21 For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean’.
Mark Driscoll reminds us that we (especially as men) need to have a bigger, more passionate, more powerful, more masculine, more authoritative, more caring view of Jesus.
What areas of your life are in turmoil right now? Listen, we all have areas of our lives that are in need of surrender to Jesus… Maybe you cheated? Maybe you lied? Maybe you have done something sexually immoral or deceitful? Maybe you’ve hurt someone?
Remember one thing, if nothing else, Jesus suffered so that we could enjoy life! He died on the cross, to save you and I from our sins. Because of our ugly human nature, we all have or have had our faces turned toward sin and our backs to God. But through repentance, we can now be blessed to turn our faces to God and our backs to sin.
‘With Jesus we are liberated from speculation and we are granted revelation!’, Mark Driscoll.
